Have you ever thought about writing a blog and weren’t sure how to get started? Perhaps you have too many thoughts going on and want to share these with others! Or maybe you already have a blog and want to add a little finesse to your writing or site. In conjunction with the Shut Up and Write Tuesday series, ALIA QLD is pleased to host a panel discussion all about blogging with expert panel members to tell us how it’s done and why even blog at all.
Blogging can be creative, therapeutic and rewarding and just one way of giving back to the LIS sector. Join us and our fabulous panelists for an evening of blogging, cheese and wine.
Sam Searle is the Manager, Library Technology Services at Griffith University. She has worked previously in a variety of roles at Monash University Library, the Office of the Information Commissioner (Qld), Victoria University of Wellington, and the National Library of New Zealand. Sam started blogging in 2014 and has published over sixty posts. Sam sees publishing via her blog and more scholarly channels as a key part of her professional development. Alisa Howlett is the Coordinator, Evidence Based Practice at the University of Southern Queensland Library. She has over eight years of industry experience in various sectors and information settings including special libraries, information management, government recordkeeping and academic libraries. Alisa was first introduced to blogging in 2010 and launched her own blog, Flight Path, in early 2011. The most enjoyable part of blogging for Alisa is seeing her posts help other LIS professionals in some way, either to better understand a concept, empathise with a situation or provide a way forward. Amy Walduck is an Outreach Librarian at City of Gold Coast Libraries with previous roles in state, academic and public libraries. Amy is passionate about trying new things, getting involved and designing her own career. She is a librarian, an extrovert, a creative and her personal fashion style can be described as toddler-grandma.
