Happy New Year everyone!
Welcome to 2017 and what we hope will be a wonderful year for ALIA Qld.
To kick off the year we are encouraging everyone to participate in the amazing #1Lib1Ref campaign.
If you’re not sure what #1Lib1Ref is all about then here is a great overview with instructions!
The short version is that from January 15 until February 3 librarians and information professionals everywhere are encouraged to add just one new reference to a Wikipedia article of their choice. (Of course you can do more than one if you want to!). But one is all it takes to make Wikipedia better for everyone. We think that’s a pretty awesome goal. Best of all it’s easy to get involved. There are heaps of tips at the link above but here at ALIA Qld we have put together a step by step powerpoint that will guide you through the process.
Our close friends at SLQ are also getting involved and we’re aiming for 1000 references added by awesome Queenslanders during the campaign. We think that’s very achieveable!
So how can you let us know once you’ve done your bit and added a new reference to the article of your choice?
It’s easy!
Tweet us ( @aliaqld ) with a link to the updated article and use the #1Lib1Ref hashtag in your tweet as well.
We also strongly encourage you to follow SLQ on twitter (@slqld) and elsewhere to find out about the sessions they will be running during the 1Lib1Ref campaign. If you’re in Brisbane or close by you might be able to get to one of these for training by a real life Wikipedian. Alternatively, watch out for a session or two being streamed via Facebook Live.
Good luck and we can’t wait to see all the 1Lib1Ref tweets coming at us 🙂
